I chose a 2.4 diesel AAB (slow but reliable) since that was an option for Canadian Eurovans, thus RockAuto offers some engine parts. RORO can take anything-my agent offered me as an option RORO Zeebrugge to Tacoma and it was even a bit cheaper than a shared container.ġ993 T4 body and suspension parts will be the same as 1993 Eurovans over here. My T4 Karmann Karuso arrived to Oakland from Rotterdam via container, but I don't think a Gypsie would fit in a highcube. I think your main problem will be California emissions when you try to register it! But I am up here in the PacNW so others main know more about that. I just don’t know what hoops I’d have to jump through to meet the shipper’s requirements. I’ve found a few T4 Gipsies overseas in Europe which were 25 years or older, so they could be brought over without CBP hurdles. A RoadTrek 190 would be OK, and fits the bill the best for a non-VW. Given you're in the USA you are going to have to stick to models that were available there. Sounds like a cool career and a neat idea for your on call time. If you're in the market for a 20+ year old RV, I cannot see how you can't get a better deal on a small, domestic RV with a V8 or diesel, and be way ahead of the curve in terms of space, amenities, durability, reliability and repairability. The Rialta is underpowered and overweight, and transmissions are a wild-card if you don't know the owner/driver history of the vehicle I don't imagine the Gipsy would fare much better. Other than the difficulties of finding a Gipsy, is there a good reason to go with a Rialta, or even a regular Eurovan camper? If I were to go with a EV Camper, obviously I’d lose out on the shower and toilet. ![]() The Gipsy has a smaller footprint yet offers all the comforts of a Rialta. A Rialta was something I was always eyeing for this purpose, but I recently found about Gipsies. ![]() Rather than getting another Vanagon to put down in sfo, I was wanting something more modern with more amenities (a shower and toilet). I’d love to get a vehicle that I can camp out in said places. During the times I’d be on reserve, I’d like to be able to hang out in the city or places like Marin, Half Moon Bay, or Santa Cruz. I’m a an airline crew member that commutes from pdx to sfo, and when I upgrade to 757 Captain, will be on reserve (akin to “on-call”) anywhere from 5 to 18 days a month. Some background on why I’m looking at these options- I need a part-time live-in vehicle that I’d keep in SFO airport. I would like members opinions on a Eurovan, vs Rialta vs the rare T4 Gipsy.
